KS1 Poetry Into Performance Lesson Plan

by Alison Chaplin

This KS1 lesson plan explores the autumn-themed poem The Leaves (by an unknown author) which describes the sights and sounds on a windy day and night in autumn. The drama lesson encourages children to bring these sights and sounds to life, performing the poem using mime, dance, expressive movements, and a sound orchestra!

This is a great lesson for linking to a project on the seasons or for a PE session. It runs for 20-30 minutes and does not require any equipment, but needs a hall or large space for it to work effectively. This lesson plan includes suggested follow-on tasks and activities.

Type: lesson plan
Subject: poetry, sound effects
Age Range:KS1
